The DeFeo lecture is scheduled for September 11, 2009, 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm in DuVal Auditorium at UMC. This year’s speaker is Larry Shriberg, Ph.D., CCC-SLP who will lecture on Puzzles and Mysteries:  Unraveling the Origins of Childhood Apraxia of Speech.

Dr. Shriberg, is Principal Investigator, the Phonology Project and Co-Director, the Phonology Clinic, Waisman Center, University Wisconsin-Madison.  Dr. Shribert’s research interests focus on genetic and other origins of pediatric speech sound disorders, including studies to identify diagnostic markers for clinical subtypes and studies to develop subtype-specific treatment.

We will consider issues and findings from emerging research on the origins of Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) in neurodevelopmental and idiopathic contexts.  The focus will be on information from genetic, epidemiologic, and diagnosic classification studies, with modest extrapolation to service delivery issues.
