This lecture series was established to honor the continuing outstanding career of Dr. DeFeo in clinical teaching and mentoring in speech-language pathology at the University of Arizona. Speakers in this lecture series will be chosen to embody the educational and personal spirit of Dr. DeFeo, including his academic rigor, pervasive creativity, dedication to students, support of evidence-based treatments for clients, and upbeat and strong advocacy for the blending of basic science with clinical science and art. The most recent lecture was presented by Megan M. Hodge, PhD, of the University of Alberta, on August 27, 2010. This lecture is open to the public. Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience Society Annual Meeting

This winter conference was developed by Dr. Andrew Lotto as a way to bring together researchers in speech, psychoacoustics, auditory neurophysiology, cognitive psychology, linguistics, and computer science to discuss the cognitive/perceptual processing of complex acoustic signals like speech, music and natural sounds. A variety of lectures and discussions are covered each year. Previous conferences have included sessions on cue weighting, music, speech communication by children, auditory adaptation/learning, as well as a debate on Motor Theory. The conference is coordinated by the Auditory Cognitive Neuroscience Experience Lab and hosts notable speakers from across the country.

Grunewald-Blitz Conference in Pediatric Communication Disorders

This fall conference provides state-of-the-art information about issues relevant to language development, assessment and treatment of children with communication disorders. Speech pathologists, audiologists and other professionals attend this day-long workshop. Previous conferences have provided that latest information on learning theory and language disorders, pediatric feeding and swallowing disorders, and cleft palate speech/motor speech disorders.
