Dr. Bayles is an ASHA Fellow and past President of the Academy of Neurogenic Communication Disorders and Sciences. She has been awarded the UA Science Award for Service, the ASHA Multicultural Contribution Award, and the Arizona Commission on Women Vision Award. Her research interests include: neurogenic language disorders (in particular those associated with dementing diseases), aging, and cultural diversity.
Dr.
Bayles was recently recognized for her outstanding contributions in research, leadership, teaching and mentoring by the American Speech-Language-Hearing-Association. She received a 2006 Honors of the Association award, which is the highest award the association can give.
The bell of the USS Arizona,
at the UA Student Union Memorial Center,
was rung in December 2006 to honor her outstanding achievements.
