Overview

Anthony DeFeo is a faculty member and Director of Speech-Language and Hearing Clinics in the Department of Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences. He also serves on the faculty of the Interstellar Project, a post-graduate interdisciplinary program in Reading, Language, and Learning Disabilities. DeFeo received his bachelor degree in Speech Arts and Sciences from Montclair State College, and his M.A. and Ph.D. in Speech-Language Pathology from Northwestern University. A clinical enthusiast and generalist, DeFeo's extensive clinical experience fuels teaching and research activities, with special emphasis on pediatric communication disorders and the clinical process.

DeFeo maintains broad interests within the discipline, studying subsystems of both speech and language disorders. The process of diagnostic decision making is another focal point. He is active in developing evaluation and treatment protocols, and continually seeks to learn from case studies of challenging child and adult clients. Most of his time is spent in the classroom and clinics encouraging students to appreciate the principles of science and service that are necessary for effective clinical practice, namely: "Reach for Wisdom - Work for Wonders".
