Clinical Assistant Program

Our Speech, Language and Hearing Clinic’s Clinical Assistant Program (CAP) provides undergraduates an opportunity to gain experience in our dynamic campus clinic.  Clinical Assistants can explore areas of interest in speech pathology and audiology and earn observation hours towards certification.

CAP Guidelines

  • Junior or Senior status in SLHS at the University of Arizona
  • GPA: 3.0 or higher

What will I do?

CAP students will be involved in a variety of engaged learning activities, including one or more of the following:

  • Assisting with preparing materials and setting up for sessions
  • Observing client sessions
  • Recording clinical data during sessions
  • Participating in sessions as a conversation partner
  • Planning 1-2 activities for a client at the end of the semester long experience

Please note: Particular responsibilities will vary depending on the placement and client needs.  The expectations for each CAP student will be outlined in a meeting with the clinical instructor.

How do I apply?

CAP placements occur in fall, spring and summer semesters. Applications will close at the end of each semester for placements the following semester. For example, applications will close the last day of the Fall 2022 semester for a Spring 2023 CAP experience. You will be notified of acceptance into the CAP program in time to register for the experience the following semester. CAP applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and there are limited spaces available. Priority will be given to seniors for placements.

Steps to apply:

  1. Complete HIPAA training through Edge Learning in UAccess and save your completion certificate as a PDF or picture file.
