Tinnitus is the perception of sound in the ears or head in the absence of an external source. It is often described as a ringing, but it also can sound like roaring, clicking, hissing, or buzzing. Tinnitus is not a disease; it is a symptom that something has affected the auditory system (i.e., ear, auditory nerve that connects the inner ear to the brain, and the parts of the brain that process sounds).
The underlying triggers for tinnitus are as varied as people’s individual experience of it. It can be the result of a number of health conditions, such as:
- Noise-induced hearing loss;
- Ear wax or other foreign objects that block the eardrum;
- Head or neck trauma;
- Middle ear disorders;
- Medications; anti-inflammatory drugs, quinine and chemotherapeutic agents etc.;
- Psychological concerns such as depression and anxiety;
- Systemic disorders including hormonal changes, diabetes, anemia, thyroid dysfunction, vascular disorders, aneurysms, high or low blood pressure; and
- Acoustic Neuroma.

Our Tinnitus Management program includes a comprehensive assessment and interpretation of data, counseling, education, and service planning with the goal of providing effective tinnitus coping strategies.

Our Professional Fee: We encourage you to look into your insurance coverage. In most cases, the audiologic evaluation fee is not covered by insurance because either it is not a covered benefit or we are not in-network providers. This means that you will be responsible for the cost of service at the time of your appointment.
