Recognition for Excellence in Research Benefiting Underserved Populations
Associate Professor, Dr. Nicole Marrone, recently received the 2020 College of Science Galileo Circle Curie award bestowed to a junior faculty member whose innovative work not only advances science, but addresses diversity issues within the scientific community. Dr. Marrone has emerged as an internationally-recognized leader addressing hearing health care models that enhance service delivery to underserved populations. Specifically, Marrone’s team designed and implemented a Spanish language audiologic rehabilittion program, Oyendo Bien, implemented in partnership with community health care workers along the U.S. Mexico border. Dr. Marrone’s engagement in diversity and inclusion is pervasive throughout her research, teaching/mentoring and service activities. She is indeed worthy of this highly prestigious honor.
