Course Guidelines to Meet ASHA Requirements

One course in each of the following areas is required for clinical certification by ASHA.

Courses used to meet these requirements can be taken at any university or college (including community colleges or a junior college) and can be any level. Advanced Placement or International Baccalaureate credit noted on your college transcript is also acceptable to meet these requirements.

Physical Science Courses
Physics
Chemistry

Biological Science Courses (emphasis on content area related to human or animal sciences)
Biology
Human Anatomy and Physiology
Neuroanatomy and Neurophysiology
Genetics

Social and Behavioral Science Courses
Anthropology
Psychology
Sociology
Gerontology
Public Health

Mathematics
Any course at the level of college algebra or above

Statistics
Any stand-alone college level statistics course. This course should not be a research methods course.
