Amy Wheeler, AuD, CCC-A, F-AAA
Amy Wheeler, AuD, CCC-A, is a graduate of Utah State University. Following 14 years of working as an audiologist in an ENT setting and supervising students in a clinical setting for 5 years, Dr. Wheeler joined the U of A faculty as an assistant clinical professor. Her role as a clinical educator includes working with AuD graduate students in the clinic as they see patients for hearing evaluations and services related to hearing devices. Dr. Wheeler also coordinates clinical placements for first, second-, and third-year graduate students. As the department’s externship coordinator, she works with third year graduate students to identify and receive externship placements. She also meets regularly with fourth year AuD students and their clinical educators during their externships and facilitates a monthly externship grand rounds meeting.
Dr. Wheeler's clinical interest is focused on increasing access to services, which is seen through her work as Coordinator of the Southern Arizona Hearing Aid Bank and representing UA in the Hearing Healthcare Assistance Project. This can also be seen in her involvement in student research projects advocating for Medicaid coverage of hearing aids in Arizona and evaluations of the sustainability of community hearing aid programs.
