Alumna Update: Fernanda Bueno
April 27, 2020
We always love to hear from our former students. Fernanda Buena recently sent us this update:
While pursuing my bachelor's degree in Speech, Language, and Hearing Sciences, one of the many aspects I found very interesting was the insightful research being conducted by incredible professors. I was very intrigued to keep learning outside the classroom so I got involved with Dr. Alt's L4 Lab and Dr. Marrone's and Dr. Wong's Oyendo Bien study. These opportunities exposed me to different sides of research I truly felt passionate about.
After graduating with my B.S. in SLHS, I was accepted to the AuD program at U of A. Although this was an exceptional program, I found myself at a crossroads. I loved learning about Speech and Hearing, but pursuing a life-long career in this field wasn't for me. Instead, I enrolled in the Master's of Marketing program at Eller College of Management. Even though I made a very distinct change in fields, I stayed involved in research, but now business related. After graduating with my Master's, I pursued an internship with NBCU Telemundo 52 over the summer in Los Angeles, which led to a full-time opportunity as a Research Associate in the Consumer Insights department for Universal Studios Hollywood. My academic and professional career paths have been far from linear, but I somehow kept finding my way back to research.
