We Say Good Bye to Beloved Past UA Clinical Faculty, Kay Wiley

Our department is sad to share that beloved Clinical Faculty member, Kay Wiley, passed away. Below is her obituary shared by her family.

Kay Diane Wiley

Kay D. Wiley, age 66, of Tucson, Arizona passed away April 7th, 2018. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service on Saturday, June 2nd, at 3:00pm at St. Philip's in the Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson, 4440 N. Campbell Avenue, at River Road.

Born in Berea, Ohio, Kay was raised in Elgin, Illinois. Kay attended Colorado State University in Fort Collins, Colorado, graduating with a Bachelor of Science degree in Speech and Hearing Science in 1974 followed by a Master of Science in Speech Pathology in 1976. As an undergraduate student, Kay was a proud Pi Beta Phi sister.

Kay worked as a Speech Pathologist and lived in Virginia, New Mexico, and California before settling in Tucson, Arizona in 1994. Kay’s professional life found her thriving while at the University of Arizona as a Clinical Instructor. While at the University she collaborated with esteemed and well-respected colleagues in her field, co-authoring and presenting specialized teaching materials and scientific studies, and serving on various committees with the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). She founded Your Voice, Your Music in 2001, a private consulting business which specialized in the injured and aging performance voice as well as learning authentic communication style for male to female transgendered individuals. In 2012, Kay moved to Dallas, Texas to continue her work as the Clinical Director at the Parkinson Voice Project.

Kay was a pianist and was most well known for her profound singing as an Alto soloist and professional choral member. She performed all over the world with many classical ensembles, including Los Angeles Chamber Singers & Cappella, The Virginia Chorale, Dallas Symphony Chorus, The Phoenix Chorale, Santa Fe Desert Chorale, and as a section leader in church choirs, most notably at St. Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church in Tucson. Kay was also actively involved in the PEO sisterhood for over 30 years.

Kay is survived by her children Alicia McManus of Richmond, Virginia and James McManus of Las Vegas, Nevada as well as Stephen McManus, father of Kay’s children, and her brother Bruce Wiley of Wellesley, Massachusetts. Memorial donations may be made to St Philip’s in the Hills Episcopal Church.
